March is where we started seeing more and more of our yard come back to life.
We have new growth and new insect friends and as an added bonus we have begun work on a new water feature project.
It has been a busy month!
We transplanted a multi-color Texas native lantana into the middle of our yellow lantanas and it has taken root and started growing!
Our milkweed we planted last year is up and running for this year. (More surprises later in this page.)
Our rogue Bluebonnet is doing well.
One of our transplanted redbuds is starting to sprout leaves. Yeah! It's alive!
We have a volunteer mulberry tree that we are going to keep and it is thriving.
This lovely lad is a crepe myrtle that we started from a cutting. He survived the winter is is now growing his own leaves.
We are going to add a larger water feature with a waterfall and a stream.
This video will show how we marked out a general guideline for placement.
Breaking ground on our new water feature.
Crocs stink for diggin' holes.
We dug the hole about 18 inches deep with a flat bottom.
The dirt we piled up about 10 inches from the edge of the hole.
This will allow us to build the sides higher and leave a ledge for water plants to reside.
We are going to build the outer wall to about 12 inches.
More to come on this project later.
So, it rained the night before and now we truly have a pond.
We can't work on it today, so we have to drain it and wait for it to dry.
Our garden has started blooming with things other than anemones!
Our sages are starting to bloom, too.
This strange looking thing is proof that our water features are working.
Say hello to our dragonfly emerging from the nymph stage to adulthood.
We have had some new visitors to our garden already.
This handsome guy is a newly emerged damselfly.
His brown color suggests emergence in the last day or two....
Another newby damselfly looking for prey.
